The More You Read

I don’t think I have ever enjoyed reading books as much as I have up until a couple years ago. A couple years ago, a neighbor asked if anyone wanted to start a book club and for some reason, I jumped at the idea. I thought, what better way to do something for myself than to read and meet / hang out with the neighbors. I wanted to love reading. I remember reading a little bit growing up, but not too much. I remember books like The Baby-Sitters Club and books by Judy Blume. But since this past January, I feel like I’ve read a tremendous amount of books – at least for me. I don’t know what’s happened, but I just feel like I need to keep reading.

From January 2020 until now, I’ve read way more than my fair share of books. A crazy amount for me, considering I’ve been home with the kids. The genre varies from thriller, young adult novels, romance, personal development, inspirational, science fiction, educational, parenting and much more. I cannot tell you how much I have been enjoying getting lost in a good book. I’m loving escaping into a different world. I’m loving learning more about myself with the personal development books. And I’m gaining knowledge from some of the educational and parenting books. I think all this reading is helping me in more ways than one.

Reading has opened my eyes to a new world of enjoyment. Knowing I can escape into a bit of someplace else is a joy. Especially since I’m home so much at this time. I didn’t know how much I needed it until now. Some days I’d rather read then do housework and I do just that. I mean, why not? Because of wanting to slow down, I’ve told myself I will read more.  I sometimes just need a break and reading a book has been my go to.

Some of the books I’m gaining knowledge from, such as the parenting books, or personal development.

Some I’m reading for pure enjoyment, such as the romance, mystery or thriller books.

You are probably wondering how has she been able to read so much? Most days, I’m up before the kids in the morning. I usually try to read for a bit during that time. At night, sometimes I read before bed. And sometimes when the kids are pre-occupied during the day, I’ll open up my Kindle and read a little. During the summer months, I did a lot of reading while the kids were playing outside. I would sit on the deck with my book and just …. read.

I honestly didn’t know how much I enjoyed reading until now. Do you like to read? What’s your favorite genre to read? What’s your all time favorite book?

If you want to know what books I’ve read, let me know! I’m happy to share a list of what I’ve read this year. And if you have any recommendations of books to read – please share!
